Disabled Winter Sports In Australia

When it comes to disabled winter sports in Australia, there are a lot more to choose from than you might think. And thankfully there are also amazing organisations like the Disabled Wintersport Australia who are making it more accessible for people with disabilities to enjoy the great outdoors with ease. At Action Trackchair Australia, we support and thank everyone who is making a difference to those with mobility issues.

Disabled Wintersport Australia

Assisting thousands of individuals annually, Disabled Wintersport Australia (DWA) stands as the first organisation for adaptive winter sports in Australia. Their vision centres on providing equal opportunities for people with disabilities to engage in their chosen winter sport at all levels. From recreational skiers and snowboarders to Winter Paralympians, DWA boasts a diverse membership, nurturing some of the globe’s finest winter athletes. Here are some of the programs they have on offer:

Resort Services

Disabled Wintersport Australia operates at major Australian snow resorts like Falls Creek, Mt. Buller, and Mt. Hotham in Victoria, and Perisher and Thredbo in New South Wales. Whether you’re booking just for the resort or need adaptive equipment, reservations are crucial. Consider booking an adaptive lesson for expert advice and support before hitting the slopes on your own.

  • At Falls Creek, DWA offers one of the world’s most advanced adaptive skier programs. Ski with internationally recognised instructors and guides known for assisting people with disabilities and enjoy the thrill of skiing in the snowy mountains. Their adaptive disciplines include 2 track, 3 track, and 4 track skiing, sit skiing, bi skiing, adaptive snowboarding, and VI skiing and snowboarding.
  • Mt Buller offers discounted Season Memberships for DWA members, along with 50% off single-day tickets in-resort and up to 40% off private lessons.
  • Becoming a DWA member at Mt Hotham grants access to adaptive equipment hire, discounted lift tickets, and adaptive Snowsport guides, ensuring everyone can enjoy snowsports.
  • At Perisher, booking in advance secures the best prices and ensures access to qualified adaptive instructors for full day or 3 hour morning DWA private lessons.
  • Thredbo‘s adaptive program, led by professionally trained instructors and DWA Guides, provides specialised equipment and ensures skiers and snowboarders of all abilities can enjoy a rewarding mountain experience. Thredbo Resort offers accessible parking and mountain access from the Friday Flat area. DWA Guides are available to assist members with safely accessing and getting around the mountain.

Camp Programs

If you become a member of Disabled Wintersport Australia, you can benefit from their camp programs which are held in three resorts (Falls Creek, Perisher, and Thredbo) throughout winter. They cater for beginner to advanced skiers/riders and the camp includes accommodation, meals, equipment, and support. DWA will also provide lift tickets, rental equipment and resort lessons if required. Once you book into a camp, you can add these extras to your booking at an additional cost. Member camps are a wonderful and unforgettable experience for all those who love taking advantage of the snow in winter. Click here for more.

Why the Action Trackchair is the best for winter sports

Being in a wheelchair often means missing out on going places, making many users feel cut off from the world and the active life they’re used to. The Action Trackchair, recognised as the top off-road, all-terrain wheelchair, changes that. It lets you reach places regular wheelchairs can’t. For those who love the outdoors and don’t want to be stuck indoors, it’s a game changer for independence and freedom. Designed with the outdoors in mind, the Action Trackchair allows easy navigation across various terrains. With this 4×4 wheelchair, you can now embrace your love of exploration once more.

These all-terrain wheelchairs go through a rigorous controlled ability test as well as real-world testing and demanding conditions. This involves mud, sand, snow, and water.

The testing was designed to break it, so you don’t. To survive the brutal testing the Action Trackchair® demanded durability capability and an innovative design. The Action Trackchair® is designed to provide freedom and independence to as many people as possible.

Winter can take its toll on wheelchairs, but the Action Trackchair is long-lasting and durable, and the perfect chair for any winter sports in Australia.

Changing LIVES

Changing the lives of thousands of individuals

The Action Trackchair is patented for its design and functionality, with features unmatched on any other tracked or all-terrain wheelchair. The electric tilt mechanism allows the user to easily stay level in their Trackchair while traversing hills and uneven terrain.

Swing-up arms, adjustable footrests, accessory receivers surrounding the chair, 3 models, dozens of colour combinations, and many more options allow the customer to create a Trackchair that meets their needs.
